Eligibility requirements for students
1st: Have at least one parent born in Fairouzah, Syria.
2nd: Be accepted to an accredited university or college, undergraduate or graduate program, in the United States of America.
3rd: Be a full time student.
4th:Have a high school or college GPA of at least 3.0.
5th: Portray Commitment to the FAA by meeting the following requirements:
•Each scholarship winner must complete 10 hours of voluntary service to the FAA, e.g. becoming a camp counselor, contributing articles to the FAA website, conducting mentoring activities, etc. Full list will be provided to winners. Must be complete within one year of receiving the scholarship.
6th: Note for previous winners: A student is eligible to win one scholarship per academic degree. Hence, previous winners may apply if acquiring a new degree (changing majors within the same degree level is not eligible).
Deadlines and Notifications
For the 2010-2011 academic year, all materials must be received by September 17, 2010
Notification date: October 29, 2010

There is no application fee.

Application Instructions
All materials except for transcripts could be submitted online or by mail. Please note that all of the following steps are held in equal significance when scoring our application. Please follow these steps:
1st: Fill out Application form
2nd: Have your official transcripts mailed directly to the committee
3rd: Submit a copy of your acceptance letter (if freshman just accepted) to the university or college you will attend
4th: Write an essay no longer than 3 pages (double spaced in 12-point font) stating how growing up in the Fairouzah community has influenced your life, why you deserve a scholarship award, and how you intend to contribute your 10 hours of voluntary FAA service
5th: Provide between 1 and 3 letters of recommendation (personal, academic, or professional). The source may not be a relative or your significant other
6th: Be available for an interview if you are a finalist. For applicants living outside of California, the interview can be conducted via web conference
7th: File online to faascholarship@gmail.com or send all application materials in ONE envelope postmarked by September 3, 2010 to:

Note regarding taxes
A scholarship award, if applied directly toward tuition, fees, and cost of books, is not required to be listed as “income” by the recipient on income tax returns. Please note all awards will be submitted directly to the student’s university of attendance

Student must be able to provide supporting documentation upon request
